Northern Health Travel Grant - Overview

The Northern Health Travel Grant (NHTG) is a reimbursement program administered by the Ministry of Health to provide financial support to Northern Ontario residents who need to travel for medical specialty care unavailable in their home community. This includes residents from Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, North Bay, Thunder Bay, Algoma, Cochrane, Kenora, Manitoulin, Nipissing, Parry Sound, Rainy River, Timiskaming, and other Northern Ontario communities.

Ontario patients eligible for NHTG support, who receive flights and accommodations through Hope Air, are required to submit a completed NHTG application to Hope Air within 30 days following the completion of their medical travel to remain eligible for Hope Air support. They must also direct that any reimbursement through NHTG be payable directly to Hope Air. The NHTG application form must be received by Hope Air prior to the patient's next request for travel.
