Overview

As of July 8, 2025, Hope Air entered into a pilot funding agreement with the Government of Newfoundland & Labrador. Through this pilot, Hope Air may receive partial reimbursement for supports provided to patients who would otherwise qualify for the province’s Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP).

This pilot provides important funding support for Hope Air and helps ensure we can continue offering travel assistance to Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Participation in this funding arrangement does not change eligibility criteria or benefits available to Hope Air recipients in Newfoundland & Labrador.

Hope Air will continue to assess all applications using its standard eligibility criteria.

MTAP is a provincial reimbursement program available to all residents of Newfoundland & Labrador who incur eligible medical travel expenses, regardless of income.

[MTAP Overview]

Patients generally cannot submit a separate MTAP claim for the same trip if the travel was arranged and paid in full by Hope Air.

Every situation is unique. Patients are encouraged to consider which program — Hope Air, MTAP, or a combination of available supports — best meets their individual needs.

If you have questions or would like help understanding your options, Hope Air’s team is here to support you.
